Everything you need to know for your visit to Clot Park

Clot Park offers a wide variety of facilities for walking, relaxing or exercising. This large space combines elements of the old RENFE workshop with a large green space, uniting the two most important elements of the neighborhood: the town hall and the market. Below, we will tell you about its origins and the most outstanding elements.

History of Parque del Clot

Acueducto parque del clot

The Clot Park was built on the site of the former RENFE workshop, which was in operation from 1853 to 1972. The workshop was located in the middle of two of the most important areas of the neighborhood: the market and the town hall. After 10 years of the factory’s closure, the neighbors insisted on taking advantage of that space for everyday use, and thus be able to connect two of the most important points of the neighborhood.

Thus, in 1986, the construction of the park was started by architects and landscape architects Daniel Freixes and Vicente Miranda. In addition to linking the two nerve centers of the neighborhood, it improved transportation links with Avenida Meridiana and Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes. It was decided to preserve some of the elements and structures of the old factory, such as the façade, the chimneys and part of the wall.

The end result is a park of more than 4 hectares with areas for all kinds of activities. Every morning you can find free tai chi and motor skills classes. In addition, in March of each year, the calçots festival is held, with vermouth, tapas, DJ’s and second hand markets.

Architecture of Parc del Clot

The distribution of the park can be divided into two areas: a natural space, full of Mediterranean vegetation; and a more urbanized space, with a concrete floor, where the sports courts are located.

The park has integrated several elements of the former railway workshop that was located in the area. The aqueduct, for example, was part of the factory façade, and was rehabilitated as part of the renovation and restoration project. The new installation has a length of 25 meters and culminates in a large waterfall that reintroduces water into the lake surrounding the structure. There are also original chimneys and walls that serve to divide the different areas of the park.

One of the most impressive elements of the park is the corridor, a structure formed by white metal frames that runs through the entire park, rising above the sports field and bleachers to provide a panoramic view of the entire park.

In one corner of the park we find the square pavilion, made from the old walls of the workshop. Inside this structure we find the sculpture Rites of Spring, by the North American sculptor Bryan Hunt, as well as two small fountains, called La Piña and La Cascada.
