Learn about the history of the Museum of Catalan Modernism

Museo del Modernismo Catalan

The Museum of Catalan Modernism dates back to March 2010 when it first opened its doors to the public. It is located on two floors of a modernist building designed by the renowned architect Enric Sagnier and was founded by the collector couple Fernando Pinós and María Guirao.

This museum is the first dedicated to Catalan modernism to be open to the public and currently houses many unpublished works by artists who lived during this historical period. With a surface area of 1000 m², it currently exhibits a total of 350 artworks.

Since its opening, the museum has attracted cultural enthusiasts, averaging around 17,000 visitors annually. Therefore, if you’re looking for something to do in l’Eixample and share an interest in this cultural period, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Exhibition hours at the Museum of Catalan Modernism

Exhibitions do not have specific hours; they follow the museum’s schedule, which is from Monday to Saturday, 11:00 to 19:00. The Museum of Catalan Modernism features both permanent displays and temporary exhibitions that change with the seasons. To find out about current exhibitions and explore them further, check the museum’s exhibition agenda.

Among the permanent exhibitions, there are 350 works showcasing various items such as paintings, sculptures, furniture, and stained glass from the Pinós-Guirao family’s private collection.

While all pieces are noteworthy, some stand out for their essence. For architecture enthusiasts, observing Antoni Gaudí’s modernist furniture is a highlight of the museum.
